Olaf Pollack (Team Focus), former Gerolsteiner and T-Mobile professional, has been suspended by the German Cycling Federation (BDR) after testing positive in an out-competition test on July 6th. The BDR has not named the substance Pollack tested positive for.

Pollack, 35, has seen better years, wearing the pink leader’s jersey in the 2006 Giro d’Italia. After two years with the Pro-Continental teams Wiesenhof-Felt and Volksbank, Pollack raced this year for the continental level Team Focus while still competing on the track, winning the silver medal in the Madison at last years World Championships. At the 2000 Olympics Pollack won gold in the team pursuit. Pollack has requested a counter-analysis.

Fellow countryman Markus Cronjäger also tested positived for an unnamed substance in a doping control following the Rund um den Odenwald. Cronjäger, 29, competes at the amateur level and will not challenge the results according to the BDR. He will likely be slammed by a two year suspension from the German Federation for Sport and Arbitration.
