World champion track cyclist turned roadie Theo Bos will be leaving his long time-sponsor Rabobank behind next season in favor of finding a ProTour team that will guarantee his entry into the Grand Tours.
Best known for the pile-up he was involved in on the final stage of the Tour of Turkey earlier this year, Bos has had a good first season with the Rabobank Continental squad earning six victories to his credit.
Rabobank team manager Harold Knebel wasn't happy with the rider's decision, saying on the team's website, "We have worked with Theo for several years - first as his sponsor in track cycling, and now as a part of our road team.
"We understand, of course, Theos ambitions, but in light of the large amount of Dutch talent on the Rabobank team we could not guarantee his participation in the Grand Tours."
Now, fresh off a one month suspension for his part in the the incident that took place in Turkey, the Dutch rider is searching for a new contract for 2010.
Knebel continued, "We think we could have given him a fantastic environment to develop as a road rider. We are grateful for the wonderful years and successes, but right now we are very disappointed that Theo has refused our offer."
With several spots yet to be filled on ProTour teams, it is likely that Bos will manage to find his way to the big show come July.
