Olympic Champion Luke Roberts (Kuota-Indeland) signed a one year contract with German ProTour team Milram. The 32-year-old Australian who captured gold with his team in the pursuit in Athens, spent three years with Team CSC before two seasons with German continental team Kuota Indeland.
“I am very happy to have the chance to start next year in the ProTour with Team MILRAM. I especially want to use my experience in the Spring Classics. And I am sure that I can help the sprinters decide the race for themselves,” Roberts said after signing his contract.
“We have hired a very versatile pro in Luke Roberts. Roberts is an option for the difficult spring one-day races. He is also willing to do the important support work. But especially, Luke Roberts will help in the lead-outs for our sprinters around Gerald Ciolek,” said Raoul Liebregts, Human Resource Manage in a press release.
Other impressive results include second place at the 2002 and 2003 individual pursuit World Championships. On the road Roberts has won stages in the Tour down Under (2001), Rheinland-Pfalz Rundfahrt (2004), Drei-Länder Tour (2006) and the South African Giro del Capo (2008). The strong time trialist also scored third place finishes at the Bayern Rundfahrt (2006) and the Tour of Britain (2007).
