Nikolas Maes (Topsport Vlaanderen) will be joining Belgian formation Quickstep despite earlier rumors that he had signed with RadioShack. The 23 year old announced that he had struck a deal with Quickstep boss, Patrick Lafevre, to Belgian media at the start of the Omloop van het Houtland.
After three years with the Belgian continental team Maes is ready for another step, “The last three years I have gotten used to the pro-peloton, that’s why it’s a good time to make the step to a Pro-Tour team now. What races I will be doing is still up for question. The message is to first get through the winter without any problems and then we’ll see” the young Belgian talent told reporters.
