Katie Compton (Planet Bike) made it two in a row on Sunday by winning the Planet Bike Cup in what could have been a replay of Cross-Vegas where she also rode away from the field. Three-time Cyclo-cross World Champion Erwin Vervecken (Revor-Baboco-Champion System) took the honors in the men's race.
Compton was again paired up with Luna Chix Katerina Nash, but by half-time she wanted to leave nothing to chance, and rode away from the Czech rider. Nash's teammate Georgia Gould finished in third.
In the men’s race, Jonathan Page (Planet Bike) could taste victory in his main sponsor's event, but bad luck reared its ugly head when he rolled both tires and crashed out of the front move with Ryan Trebon (Kona).
Vervecken, 37, was just behind Trebon trying to gain ground when the Kona rider had a mis-step - that was all the experienced Vervecken needed to pull off the win. Page recovered from his crash in time to save third.
Compton, Page, and Vervecken will all soon be crossing the pond to race in Europe.
