Vuelta winner Alejandro Valverde will race a bunch of sled dogs in Valencia on Sunday. Valverde races six dogs over the distance of 350 meters.
The dogs belong to Ismael Piñol Venteo, silver medalist in the dogsled World Championships, according to De Telegraaf.
The criterium is well known for bizarre events. Last year, Olympic champion Samuel Sánchez raced a Formula 2 car, while the year before, Oscar Pereiro was challenged by a camel.
Valverde owns a dog himself, named Piti. It became rather famous for allegedly being Valverde's nickname in the Fuentes list. Valverde is still facing further investigations and is currently not allowed to race in Italy.
