Jonathan Page won the Grand Prix of Gloucester Round 1 in Maine today by over a minute. He left Jamey Driscoll, Chris Jones and Tim Johnson behind. Andy Jacques-Maynes finished fifth in the muddy affair. Page solidified his lead in the USAC Cyclocross national rankings.
The Planet Bike rider went away from the gun and was quite happy with his performance. "Wow! Winning races is FUN! I felt really good today after spending most of the week recovering from all the travelling - five races in seven days means a lot of time in cars and on planes," he said on his facebook entry. "Honestly, it just felt good to play around in the mud!"
Page loved Gloucester as a place to race cyclocross. "The organizers did a hell of a great job and are setting a whole new course up tomorrow. I woke up to the rain and thought 'it's going to be an epic day today!'"
Page added that he actually laughed during the course inspection. "I get paid to do this job… It's been raining like the dickens today and there's more in the forecast, so hopefully there will more of the same tomorrow."
After racing the second round in Gloucester tomorrow, Page will head back to Europe next week.
