Patrick Lefevere, team manager of Belgium’s Quick Step team, doesn't want to let go of the idea of two-time Tour de France Champion Alberto Contador joining his team. Classics specialist Tom Boonen has said he is excited about the possible move.

“I will be the first to be happy if the transfer happens,” Boonen told Belgium’s Concentra. “The hope is still there. His arrival would be a refreshing addition to the team, our team kind of needs it. We would be able to pursue other goals. Maybe I would even start in Liege-Bastogne-Liege,” he added.

Boonen, who has had his own set of problems with the Tour de France for the past two years, plans to approach next year’s race differently.

“I still have to make something right. I can’t stay away, but it will not be as sprinter that I return. Sprinting doesn’t suit me mentally. You never know, but my goals are the prologue, the time trials, and the intermediate stages. I want to race like I raced in Paris-Tours,” Boonen explained.
