Bradley Wiggins (Garmin Slipstream) defended the overall lead on the final stage of the Jayco Herad Sun Tour - the lead that he had taken over in yesterday’s time trial. Jonathan Cantwell finally took a stage victory by outsprinting Michael Matthews and David Tanner.

Long-time race leader Chris Sutton was unable to collect any time bonuses on the final day and remained in second place overall, 11 seconds behind teammate Wiggins.

Sutton had lost 48 seconds to Wiggins in the time trial, while Cantwell lost 1’10. Cantwell recovered some of the losses with his 14 bonus seconds in the final stage, but stayed in third place overall, nine seconds behind Sutton and 20 seconds behind Wiggins.

Cantwell was consoled by finally winning a stage but also by taking the sprints classification over Sutton.

Garmin’s Tom Peterson completed Garmin’s happy days by taking the KOM classification. He bested David McCann and Kiel Reunen.

Nick Aitken took the young rider’s classification, more than four minuteas ahead of Mitchell Pearson and Ricardo Van der Velde.

Garmin also won the teams classification, showing how strong they were. With three riders in the top four, the team has had an exceptional Sun Tour.
