Laurent Fignon, two-times Tour de France champion, announced earlier this year that he suffers from intestinal cancer. He continues to get rounds of chemotherapy, but is still working for France Télévision and Europe 1 as an advisor in the uptime between treatments.

Fignon isn't racing the Tour de France anymore, but the work he did for TV during La Grande Boucle this year while battling cancer left its mark. "I was very tired at the end of the Tour," he told l'Equipe TV.

Fignon said that he just now started a new round of chemotherapy. "It goes well, the tumor regressed by 17 percent. It's not remission, but I am on the right way." Fignon admitted that things aren't always going smoothly. "There are good days and there are bad days, but I decided I won't die!"

Fignon shows the same fighting spirit that earned him the Tour de France victories in 1983 and 1984. He also won the Giro d'Italia in 1989 and achieved the rare feat of winning the 1988 Tour de l'Avenir, several years after his two Tour wins.
