According to Sporza, Enrico Franzoi has signed with World Champion Niels Albert's BKCP-Power Plus team. The 27-year-old Italian who was third behind Albert in the Grand Prix de la Region Wallon over the weekend closed the deal Monday.
Team manager Christoph Roodhooft confirmed the talks to Sporza last week saying, “Enrico would like to ride for us. Hopefully we can strike a deal. After the weekend I expect more news.”
BKCP-Power Plus marks the first foreign team for which Franzoi has ridden. The current Italian National Cyclo-cross Champion most recently rode for Liquigas (2008,2009), and before that raced for Lampre for two years. The Italian also raced on the road with the Italian teams showing promise in the Spring Classics. He finished 8th in the 2007 Paris-Roubaix and 5th in Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne the following year. There is no word on whether he will continue to ride on the road professionally.
