Philipp Walsleben and Marianne Vos won the men's and women's elite races in Frankfurt. Walsleben beat Christoph Pfingsten, while Vos held off multiple Frankfurt winner Hanka Kupfernagel.
It was the third consecutive victory for Walsleben in Frankfurt. After a slow start to the season, the German is improving. "I am on the way up," he said to radcross.de after the race. Walsleben formed part of a five-man group, which he split with repeated attacks. In lap four he was by himself and soloed to victory in his German championship jersey.
He could even afford to take it easy in the last lap, still holding of Pfingsten by nine seconds. Dutchman Wilant van Gils finished third, ahead of the two best U23 riders. Marcel Meisen and Sascha Weber came in fourth and fifth, respectively.
New leader in the SKS German Cup ranking is Johannes Sickmüller, who finished eighth today. Milram professionals Björn Schröder and Paul Voss also participated for some active training in preparation of the road season.
Vos beats Kupfernagel
In the women's race, the two strong women of the cross peloton, Marianne Vos and Hanka Kupfernagel, finished one-two. Sanne van Passen came in third.
Kupfernagel is heading for a week of training on Mallorca with her Stevens team now. Her next race will be the Scheldecross in Belgium on December 18.
