Gesink in Armstrong's footpath to Girona

Robert Gesink is searching for a house in Girona, Spain. The community close to Barcelona has long been the destination of professional cyclists for its good weather, great training and central location for the Spanish and French races.

Gesink's current plan is to rent an apartment in Girona, according to De Telegraaf. Many of the American professionals moved here and Lance Armstrong lived in Girona until his first retirement in 2005. Levi Leipheimer and George Hincapie still live here and Garmin has its European headquarter in the Catalonian community.

"I want a place for myself where I can go to and where I can train," Gesink said. "Something for myself, so that I don't have to go to a hotel, so that I can cook something tasty for myself - or that my girlfriend can do that," he added with a smile. "When I have my own place in Spain I hope that I can ride better uphill. I hope to become a bit stronger."

This is a chance in philosophy over the past, when Gesink told Velonation there was no need to leave the Netherlands. "We have the training camps in the winter and then the races start. There is no disadvantage of living in Holland."
