Risi/Marvulli take Zurich Six Days

Bruno Risi and Franco Marvulli won the Zurich Six Days in their native Switzerland, one lap ahead of Germans Leif Lampater and Christian Grasmann. Swiss riders Alexander Aeschbach/Tristan Marguet closed out the podium spots. It was Risi's 60th Six Days win. He will retire in February, after 18 years as a professional.

It was a battle of two nations, as Lampater/Grasmann were helped by German team Danilo Hondo and Christian Bach in the decisive Madison. "The Germans formed an alliance," Risi said to Swiss magazine Blick. "We were supported by Aeschbach and Marguet and are very thankful to them. My partner Franco was riding a sensational race," Risi said.

The last 45 laps were decisive. Lampater/Grasmann and attacked and were supported by Hondo/Bach. Aeschbach and Marguet kept the pace high, which led to the capture of Lampater/Grasmann. At that very moment, Risi/Marvulli attacked and gained them crucial lap with ten laps to go.

Final standings

1. Bruno Risi/Franco Marvulli (Swi) 376 pts
2. Leif Lampater/Christian Grasmann (Ger) 358 points and one lap behind
3. Alexander Aeschbach/Tristan Marguet (Swi) 288 points and three lasp behind
