Reigning National Champion Cristian Cominelli repeated his 2009 performance at the Italian cyclo-cross Under-23 Championships in Milan today. Second was Brian Falaschi with Matteo Trentin finishing in third.
Cominelli was favored to repeat his national title and, in front of big crowds at the course in Milan, the young rider didn't let his Team TX Active-Bianchi team down. The Italian got off to a good start and attacked early to score a solo win with room to spare over the chasing riders.
“I knew that I could win today," explained Cominelli, "and I got it."
"Everything was ok and soon after the start I realized I could have a go at a win. My equipment and bike worked perfectly today.”
“I’m very happy and I really enjoyed the final laps of the race as I controlled the gap over my rivals”.
Team TX Active-Bianchi President Felice Gimondi was delighted with Cominelli’s performance: “Cristian demonstrated he is a strong rider and a smart guy as he kept control of the race. He used his mind to win and he looked to be on track for the up-coming world championships at the end of January.”
“He was really impressive today," Gimondi added, "and gave our main sponsor Italcementi a fantastic victory.”
