Quick Step rider Francesco Reda was forced to pull out of today's fourth stage in Tirreno-Adriatico after crashing and breaking his collarbone. Reda hit the pavement on a downhill section of the 243 kilometer stage from San Gemini to Chieti at kilometer 135, just after the peloton passed through the feed zone.
The Italian was immediately taken to Chieti General Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a fracture to his right collarbone.
His Quick Step team says that Reda will fly to Belgium tomorrow evening, so he can undergo further examinations on Monday at the Herentals Clinic. The team will know the proper course of action for recovery Monday evening.
