Taylor Phinney successfully defends 4000m pursuit title

American Taylor Phinney brought home the first gold medal for the United States men today by defending his 4000 meter individual pursuit title from last year. Phinney clocked 4,16.600 minutes to beat New Zealand's Jesse Sergent in the final.

Phinney's win follows up teammate Sarah Hammer's performance yesterday, where she won the women's 3000 meter individual pursuit title.

Australian Jack Bobridge took another medal for the Australian team by beating Russian Alexander Serov in the battle for bronze.
