Yesterday Italian Cycling Federation president and vice president of the International Cycling Union (UCI), Renato Di Rocco, was quoted in Italpress as saying Carlo Scognamiglio of the ISD-Neri team was one of the individuals flagged for irregularities in his Biological Passport that could indicate doping. The team and the rider had both taken exception to the announcement, with the UCI confirming to the team today that Scognamiglio was not under investigation.
"The UCI confirms that no letter has ever been sent to the rider for any abnormality that would concern the rider's biological passport," the Anti-Doping Coordinator's Office of the UCI said in an email.
ISD-Neri is currently registered in Italy, but the team has threatened to move its management company elsewhere following the incident. The team is backed by the Ukrainian steel manufacturer it is named for, which could mean a Ukranian Pro Continental team for 2011 should they decide to change their registration.
