Great Britain women injured in road accident

Katie ColCloughRiders from the Great Britain women’s team were injured in a road traffic accident between Oudenaarde and Brakel, Belgium this morning. The group of five women was involved in a collision with a car while out training at around 10:30, British Cycling has confirmed.

Hannah Mayho, Lucy Martin, Katie Colclough, Emma Trott and Sarah Reynolds are the riders involved; all have received attention at the hospital in Oudenaarde.

Hannah Mayho was in direct contact with the vehicle, according to the British Cycling statement, breaking both legs and her right arm and wrist. She is currently undergoing surgery and is expected to stay in hospital for as long as necessary.

According to the statement Katie Colclough (pictured, left) suffered concussion, Lucy Martin sustained a cracked vertebrae, Emma Trott (pictured, right) broke her collarbone and suffered a black eye, and Sarah Reynolds hurt her hand and split her chin.

Olympic Academy Programme Coach is with the five riders in Belgium and is working to return the five riders to their families in the UK as quickly as possible.
