Two candidates tied to current ProTour teams

Team RadioShack sports director Viatcheslav Ekimov has entered the ring as a candidate for president of the Russian Cycling Federation (FVSR).  The election for the post is taking place following the resignation of former head Oleg Sienko this past March.

Ekimov will be up against Igor Makarov, the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Itera Group, the company that provides the primary sponsorship for the Katusha Team, and the FVSR's current vice president Yuri Kucheryavyi.

According to Tuttobiciweb, the federation's ultimate goal is raise the profile of cycling in Russia with the help of former professional cyclists.  Their plan is to create Continental teams in Moscow, St Petersburg and Ufa, to eventually merge into another Russian powerhouse formation.

The election will be held this coming Wednesday in Moscow.
