Disgraced American cyclist Tyler Hamilton, the first rider to be found guilty of blood doping in 2004, has capped his comeback by winning the US national road race championship at Greenville on Sunday.

The 37-year-old, of the Rock Racing team, narrowly beat Blake Caldwell. The 2004 Olympic time-trial champion was allowed to hold that title after the International Olympic Committee announced that a result could not be obtained from a "B" sample because of its poor conservation.

But the former teammate of seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong was banned for two years several weeks later at the 2004 Tour of Spain because of blood doping.

Brief Results:
1 Tyler Hamilton (Rock Racing)
2 Blake Caldwell (Garmin/Chipotle)
3 Danny Pate (Garmin/Chipotle)
4 Lucas Euser (Garmin/Chipotle)
