Andy Schleck (Saxo Bank) has abandoned the Clásica San Sebastián on Saturday with just under 100 kilometers remaining in the race. Some media outlets are reporting a crash, but the situation is still unclear.
He finished in second overall at the Tour de France to Spaniard Alberto Contador (Astana) less than one week ago.
Schleck said that he was riding the Basque race as part of his preparations to help his elder brother Frank secure victory in the Vuelta a Espana. "I'm just going to ride the San Sebastian Classic before the Tour of Spain, where I plan to help my brother Frank," he told Diario Vasco prior to the race.
He indicated the course was well suited for him, but his exit happened prior to the first ascent of the Jaizkibel climb, where the decisive moves are expected to begin.
