Single day race makes little difference to classification led by Tour winner

tyler farrarWith no riders at the top of the International Cycling Union (UCI) World Ranking featuring in yesterday’s Vattenfall Cyclassics, the change to the classification is negligible. Race winner Tyler Farrar (Garmin-Transitions) netted himself 80 ranking points with his victory and manages to move up from 33rd to 18th and is the only major mover. Third-placed André Greipel (HTC-Columbia) gets 50 points and rises from 21st to 17th, but these two riders are the only movers inside the top-twenty.

At the top of the ranking, Tour de France winner Alberto Contador (Astana) holds on to his lead with 482 points; 54 points ahead of compatriot Joaquin Rodriguez (Katusha) who has 428. World champion Cadel Evans (BMC Racing) remains in third place with 390 points.

Tour riders and single-day specialists both get a chance to make a difference in the classification this week, with two ProTour races in the Eneco Tour and GP Ouest France-Plouay both counting towards the World Rankings.

Teams and Nations equally static

Both the team and national rankings are similarly unchanged at the top end, with Liquigas-Doimo the only team inside the top-five to score. 22 points, thanks to the sixth place of Daniele Bennati on Sunday, has made very little difference though; Farrar’s victory sees Garmin-Transitions rise from 14th to 11th.

The picture is identical in the national ranking, with Farrar adding to the United States total, but only slightly closing the gap on Australia.
