Spanish team continues to take shape

Benat IntxaustiThe 2011 Team Movistar roster continues to expand, with Basque climber Beñat Intxausti being the latest to be confirmed for the Spanish team.

The squad, which is currently competing under the title backing of Caisse d’Epargne, has signed the 24 year old for three seasons.

He has had a strong season, netting third in both the Vuelta al PaísVasco and the Vuleta a Asturias, winning a stage in the latter, placing sixth in the GP Miguel Indurain and tenth in the Critérium International.

In the short term, he is likely to ride in support of the older team leaders. However those results suggest that in time, he could develop into a Grand Tour contender himself.

There was a question mark over the future of the Caisse d’Epargne squad as the chief sponsor is set to pull out at the end of the year. However the Movistar backer has guaranteed its future and the management are busy making plans for 2011.

Those staying are thought to include Marzio Bruseghin, Jose ivan Gutierrez, Rui Costa, Juan Mauricio Soler, Ruben Plaza and Joaquin Rojas Gil. Luis Leon Sanchez is also tipped to stay, while Xavier Tondo has been confirmed as joining from the Cervélo Test Team.
