Kelly Benefits Strategies goes 1-2, King and McGrath in control of the overall

Kelly Benefits Strategies lit up stage two of the Green Mountain Stage Race in Vermont, with a 1-2 finish by Reid Mumford and David Veilleux in the pro/elite mens’s race. The elite women’s race saw the top two in the overall after the stage one time trial again secure the top two spots in the stage two sprint finish.

The Bridges Resort Road Race consisted of lightly rolling roads through the Vermont countryside, and included a short, gradual climb with a wide open flat run into the finish.  The move of the day in the men's race included 14 riders that contained most of the race favorites.  Mumford benefited from a perfect leadout by teammate Veilleux.  The Canadian was expected to factor into the overall, but a missed  time trial start saw him riding in service of the team.  Ted King (IamTedKing.com) finished safely in the break to maintain an 11 second lead over Tim Johnson (UnitedHealthCare/Maxxis) in the General Classification. The time bonus for Johnson’s third place on the day moved him up a spot to third in the overall.

“The domestic pro teams are going to be tough to win against”, said King, who rules prohibit from racing under his Cervélo TestTeam squad in the event. “Veilleux is out of the GC, but I’ve got to watch riders like Jamey Driscoll and Tim Johnson.”

In the elite women’s race, the PeanutButter & Co/Twenty12 duo of Kristin McGrath and Olivia Dillon were beaten to the line by Team Danbury Audi/Cyfac’s Janel Holcomb. While the trio picked-up time bonuses, McGrath retained the lead by 21 seconds over Holcomb, with Dillon moving up one spot to third.
