Quick Step rider Wouter Weylandt won the 20th edition of the Omloop van de Vlaamse Scheldeboorden today. Weylandt won final sprint of the 1.1 race in Kruibeke after196km beating Dutchman Hans Dekkers from from the Mitsubishi Jartazi team and Belgium’s Wouter Van Mechelen from Landbouwkrediet-Tönissteiner.
“I’m very happy with this victory," Weylandt said after his 5th victory of the season, "I have to thank the entire team, which did a great job catching up a breakaway of 3 riders who had reached a dangerous advantage of over 10 minutes. In the final, Van Impe drove me brilliantly in the last kilometre, putting me in the perfect position to win the sprint. After the Vuelta España I tried to maintain an high training intensity and stay concentrated. Now I want to stay in shape until the end of the season to try to reach some other goals.”
Weylandt is set to take part in the Circuit Franco-Belge from October 2nd to the 5th. “I’m going to participate in the Circuit Franco-Belge in support of Tom Boonen." explained Weylandt. "If I should see a chance for me, I will try and be prepared to take it.”
