Italian latest name confirmed for Schleck team after three years at Liquigas-Doimo
Italian sprinter Daniele Bennati has joined the new Luxembourg team of Fränk and Andy Schleck on a two-year contract, according to the rider himself on his Twitter page. He is the second sprinter to be confirmed with the team, after German Robert Wagner, to join the team, which has yet to announce its name or sponsor for 2011.
“2011+2012 faro' parte del nuovo Team Luxemburg !” [“2011 and 2011 I will be part of the new Team Luxembourg” - ed] Bennati “tweeted” last night.
Bennati was one of the fifteen riders listed by Biciciclismo last month who were bound for the team; this appears to be official confirmation of that, albeit through a somewhat unofficial channel.
29-year-old “Benna” has been with the Liquigas-Doimo team since 2008, where he has been the team’s main sprinter; his best year with the team was that first one, when he won three stages and the “ciclamino” points jersey at the Giro d’Italia. By far his most successful season though was 2007, his last with Lampre-Fondital, when his victories included two stages of the Tour de France and three of the Vuelta a España; he also won the points jersey at the Vuelta, as well as that of the Tour de Suisse.
