Cervélo TestTeam rider Dominique Rollin looks set to take the last spot on Marc Madiot's FDJ team for the 2011 season. The French Canadian came over to Europe after dominating the North American cycling scene, and has made a solid transition into competition at the ProTour level.
"We have an appointment Monday," Madiot told L'Equipe. "We will then reflect on the contract again: one or two years."
Rollin's victory in stage four of the 2008 Tour of California while riding for the Toyota United Pro Cycling Team opened the door for him to head across the pond. His win in harsh conditions there offered a glimpse of what could be in the spring Classics. The Canadian didn't disappoint, and rode onto the podium in the Scheldeprijs last year, and followed it up with an impressive fifth place in a brutal Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne earlier this season.
He ended his 2010 well, with second overall and in stage two of the Tour du Poitou Charentes et de la Vienne in late August, and sixth in the Commonwealth Games road race in Delhi, India less than a week ago. Rollin's deal with the French team comes following the announcement that Sébastien Chavanel will head to EuropCar, which could see him take over sprint duties for the team.
