Finally gets to race for Kim Andersen

fabian wegmannAfter weeks of speculation it is now official that Fabian Wegmann will join the Luxembourg Pro Cycling project. He revealed on his website fabianwegmann.de that he signed a two-year contract, for the seasons 2011 and 2012.

Wegmann is happy to join up with team director Kim Andersen. "I already had been in contact with Kim for a few years," Wegmann said. "He repeatedly wanted me to get onto his teams and now it finally worked." Wegmann had spent his entire professional career with German teams. He was first with Gerolsteiner for seven seasons, before joining Milram for the last two years.

With no more German ProTour team left, he had to look in other countries. "I am happy to be part of this team for the future," he said. Despite a new country, a new team, new teammates and new staff, Wegmann doesn't expect difficulties integrating. "I will work together with a team that has fantastic people, some of whom I have already known for a number of years. I will benefit from their professional competence."

Wegmann's 2010 season was the same as for the rest of the Milram team - quiet. The German champion of 2007 and 2008 won one race, the "Rund um den Finanzplatz Eschborn-Frankfurt" (formerly known as Rund um den Henninger Turm). He scored a third place in stage two of the Tour de France and was one of 34 heroic finishers in this year's Giro di Lombardia (ending in 15th place).

Wegmann will hope for a better 2011, with adding on to some of his past successes, like winning the GP Miguel Indurain (2006 and 2008) or his 2004 mountains classification jersey in the Giro d'Italia. He is certainly optimistic about it. "I think we will be successful and will obtain nice victories."
