Says that if he has to cut it short, season will be over

zdenek stybarZdenek Stybar heads to a very decisive training camp in Mallorca, Spain, today. The Czech rider had to sit out recent cross races due to knee problems. In case he has to abandon his training camp, he sees his cross season as over.

Stybar celebrated his 25th birthday on Saturday. His wish list was short. "Good health, that is the most important," he told Sportweekend. Stybar looks forward to a good camp on the Spanish Island. "I hope that for ten days I can train well there. If the inflammation resurfaces, I have a problem. If I have to quit the camp, my season is over."

Stybar started the season extremely well, winning races in all three major competitions almost at will. Then he banged up his knee and his season started to turn around. "Lately there was not much positive. Sometimes a cup of coffee was the only positive thing of the day."

The trouble seemed to be already over, but then started again. "In Koksijde I had no trouble with my knee, but the cold in Gieten was not good. I should have stopped when, after a botched bike change, I was riding in 20th position."

His competitors Sven Nys and Niels Albert took over as the winners. Stybar gives the younger one the better chances for the upcoming program. "I think that Albert will win all the important races in the coming weeks."

Stybar still has the hope to defend his cross title in St Wendel, Germany. "But I can't expect presents, just because I am injured."
