The HTC Highroad team has concluded its first training camp for the 2011 season in California, presenting its new jersey as well. The men and women of the American outfit spent ten days in the diverse terrain of both Northern and Southern California. The physiological testing and bike and equipment fitting was one important thing for the 25 men and 12 women to get the season started properly.
The team also put an effort into nutrition education, making sure the athletes know what foods to rely on when they are at home. Along with these more general tasks, goal setting was performed on an individual level for everyone. The camp was a chance to bring all riders, staff and team managers together in one spot at the same time.
The team also revealed its new jersey for the season, a simple, retro-inspired departure from the team's 2010 design treatment. Around one fifth of the team had to be fit with a special jersey - HTC Highroad has that many national champions. They are from the USA (Evelyn Stevens, road race), Sweden (Emma Johansson, road race), Germany (Charlotte Becker, road race and Tony Martin, time trial), Italy (Marco Pinotti, time trial), Slovakia (Martin Velits, time trial), Czech Republic (Frantisek Rabon, time trial), and Ireland (Matt Brammeier, road race).
Since 2008, HTC has won 389 races and with a strong lineup, many more will follow in 2011. One of the guaranteed winners for the team is Mark Cavendish, who took 11 stage wins this season (three at the Vuelta and five at the Tour), a team time trial and the Vuelta's points jersey.
Movistar with blue jersey
Moviestar presented its jersey for the 2011 season in Madrid today. Mostly held in blue, with the Moviestar name written in white, it also features the green logo atop the center front part of the jersey.
The team announced in a press release that the design was based on the core values of the team, being innovative, special, different and elegant. The jersey is supposed to imply velocity and dynamics, as part of modern cycling.
The 24-rider team starts its season in January, splitting the squad up into two - one faction heads to the Tour de San Luis in Argentina, the other riders go to Australia for the Tour Down Under. The successor of Caisse d'Epargne also targets the Tour de France, the Giro de Italia, and the Vuelta a España.
Especially the race at home in Spain motivates the team. A strong selection will tackle the three-week Grand Tour, with the goal of being competitive every day.
The team's outfit is for sale as of today, so that everyone can be a Movistar.
