Three-time Cyclocross World Champion opts instead for full-time position as sports marketing coordinator with Golazo
Three-time cyclocross World Champion, Erwin Vervecken, has been transitioning well to life after bike racing. The rider, who had a penchant for big results in big races, had moved on to work part-time in April with the company, Golazo.
Part-time is soon to be full-time though. Vervecken is taking on the position of sports marketing coordinator for the company with a focus on the off-road disciplines that he is so familiar with: cyclocross and mountain biking.
His new job will require the Belgian to organize thirteen cyclocross races and five mountain bike races.
Speaking with Sporza, the 38 year old was pleased with his new direction.
"Professionally, I have felt very good in recent months. It is a very varied job. The emergence of new initiatives from a number of proposals that I introduced are now done, so I feel that my efforts are appreciated."
Vervecken is not the only one happy with the current arrangement. His employer, Golazo, is pleased with his efforts so far.
"The arrival of Erwin was a relief. In 2010, we added a large number of races to our calendar…Erwin will continue to have his hands full with us."
Recently, Vervecken's name has come up as a possible successor to Hans van Kasteren as manager at his former, Telenet-Fidea team. Vervecken would have seemed to be a perfect fit, but it seems either the team or Vervecken took a pass on the possibility, thus opening the way for Vervecken's full-time position with Golazo.
