Boom hits Boom; Tree hits Tree; father of Dutch cyclocross champion suffers deep gash to right knee
Lars Boom's (Rabobank) father has crashed into a tree while the pair were out training. The Dutch cyclocross champion announced the news via his Twitter account along with images of his father. He sustained a deep gash to his left knee, which required six stitches.
The 2008 World champion, who has returned to cyclocross this winter for a number of races largely to keep his training interesting. “Christmas starts badly. Boom tegen Boom,” he tweeted.
'Boom', by the way, is the Dutch word for tree, so it’s not completely clear who is being apportioned blame from the Rabobank rider’s message. Either he meant, “Boom hits tree”, which would be an admission that his father's riding was at fault, or he meant, “tree hits Boom”, and is jokingly trying to imply that the tree jumped out in front of him.
“It was an old tree, that was hit by a riding tree haha,” he added later on, with another link to a picture with the knee dressed.
Presumably, as Boom seems to have kept a sense of humour over the incident, the wound to his father was not serious.
