Takes advantage of winter conditions in Black Forest

fabian wegmannFabian Wegmann lives in Freiburg, at the foot of the Black Forest. The hilly terrain with many long climbs to altitudes of up to 1500 meters are an ideal training ground for a cyclist - if it weren't for the snow. Currently even Freiburg at an altitude of less than 300 meters is all white. This doesn't bother Wegmann, who simply swaps the bicycle for cross-country skis and continues his preparation for the 2011 season, in which he races for the Luxembourg team of the Schleck brothers.

After the season, Wegmann took a break to do some sight seeing. "Among other things I was in Morocco with Johannes Fröhlinger," he wrote on his personal website. "This country really impressed me, especially our trip to the Sahara was spectacular."

With the new season looming, Wegmann is back on his main duty. "I have restarted the training. The weather we have been around here doesn't bother me much." Freiburg is one of the warmer places in Germany, and the snow was less disruptive to life  than in other parts of the country. Rail, air and car travel was greatly impacted in the North. In Freiburg, the amount of snow is just right for Wegmann. "This time of the year I really enjoy to put on cross country skis. With the early snowfall, the conditions in the Black Forest are ideal."

Wegmann also enjoyed the first get-together with the new Luxembourg team, which was held in the mountains as well. "We had eight great days in Crans Montana, Switzerland. I am really impressed how superbly everything is organized and the atmosphere was great."

Everybody is eagerly awaiting how the new team will be called, which is to be revealed in two weeks. "On January 6 we will officially be presented in the sports center "Coque" in Luxembourg, then we go to the team's first cycling training camp on Mallorca."
