Australian team helps out rider affected by Pegasus blowout

luke robertsLuke Roberts will get to ride the Santos Tour Down Under after all. The Australian national team, UniSA-Australia, will give him a spot in next month's race. The 2004 Olympic gold medalist switched from the Milram team, which stopped sponsorship, to the new Australian Pegasus team. That team did not get the UCI Professional Continental license however, and will not be able to make the Tour Down Under start line.

Roberts was fifth overall in the 2010 Santos Tour Down Under and came in second in stage five of the Tour. "Roberts was unlucky not to win the stage at Willunga this year," Race Director Mike Turtur, said. "Riding with UniSA-Australia is a great opportunity for him to compete again in front of a home crowd."

Roberts, who achieved Olympic glory at the Athens Olympics in 2004 with a track gold medal in the team pursuit, also won the third stage in the Tour of Murcia this year.
