The International Cycling Union (UCI) has approved the vélodrome to be used for the 2011 World Track Championships in Apeldoorn, Netherlands. The track had been provisionally inspected beforehand, with a number of issues identified; the more serious of these have now apparently been resolved and so the official green light can be given to the venue.
"Some more serious problems between resolved and therefore after an initial rejection has now decided to grant provisional approval," Netherlands Cycling Federation (KNWU) chairman Marcel Wintels told a press conference, according to De Telegraaf.
The only remaining issues are reportedly minor ones, regarding things like the space between the glass side panels and the height of advertisements. The UCI will re-inspect during the week before the World Championships, where it will officially approve the track.
The track, in the Apeldoorn Omnisport, in the Gelderland region in the centre of the country, is currently being used in the Netherlands National Championships, which is being used as a rehearsal event for the World Championships. The 2011 championships will be the first time that the Track Worlds have been hosted by the Netherlands since 1979, when they were in Amsterdam.
The World Track Championships will take place between March 23rd and 27th 2011.
