New look Italian team will start the season at the Tour of Qatar
The signing of Russian road and time trial champion Tatiana Antoshina has completed the 2011 line up of the Brescia, Italy based Gauss-RDZ-Ormu-Unico1 team. Antoshina rode for the team in 2009, before spending last season with ten World champion Tatiana Guderzo at Team Valdarno; with the team folding at the end of the year the 28-year-old has returned.
With the retiring of Lithuanian Edita Pucinskaite and the departure of Dutch sprinter Martine Bras and newly crowned World champion Giorgia Bronzini, the team takes on an entirely new look for 2011. As well as Antoshina, high profile signings include French duo Christel Ferrier-Bruneau and Aurore Verhoeven. The former a hugely experience former national champion and cyclocross specialist, the latter a developing rider; both previously rode for Nicole Cooke’s Vision1 team.
The two biggest Italian names to join the team are 20-year-old developing track specialist Valentina Scandolara and Italian World Championship team regular Luisa Tamanini.
“I am satisfied and confident” said team manager Luisana Pegoraro. “We are aware of our means, without too much pressure we will hunt for results, aiming to develop during the season. I very much believe in the young line up of my team.”
The team’s first race will be the Tour of Qatar, between February 2nd and 4th.
Gauss-RDZ-Ormu-Unico1 team for 2011:
Tatiana Antoshina, Alessandra Borchi, Christel Ferrier-Bruneau, Lorena Foresi, Sylwia Kapusta, Elena Kuchinskaya, Julia Martisova, Valentina Scandolara, Eleonora Suelotto, Luisa Tamanini, Aurore Verhoeven, Ambra Zago and Susanna Zorzi
