Events scheduled throughout first two weeks of games; high prices will be beyond many fans
The organiser of the London 2012 Olympic Games (LOCOG) has announced the timetables for all events, and the prices of the tickets that will soon become available. Cycling events will consist of road races, time trials, track events, mountainbike cross country and BMX, with the road races being some of the Games’ first medals to be awarded.
“Publishing the Olympic sports competition schedule means that everyone – athletes, coaches, spectators, broadcasters and everybody who wants to be part of London 2012 can now start planning their Games,” said Lord Sebastian Coe, double Olympic champion and LOCOG chairman.
As well as planning their games, spectators can also begin to save up, with tickets for the track events as high as £325 (~$520/€387) for the best seats. Despite the high prices, in a time of economic hardship for many in the United Kingdom, demand for tickets in the vélodrome will likely be very high due to the Great Britain track team’s almost total dominance in Beijing in 2008.
Although the road races will take place on public roads, like any other race, and will be free to watch around the course, there will be some ticketed areas in the finish area on the Mall. Both Individual Time Trials are completely free events and will not be ticketed, although the venue and course has yet to be announced.
