British Cycling has announced the 17-rider squad that will be representing Great Britain at the Track World Championships in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, which take place between March 23rd and 27th. Reigning World champions Sir Chris Hoy, Victoria Pendleton and Ed Clancy have made the selection, while Sam Harrison, Dani King and Laura Trott will make their World Championship debut.
“These World Championships are a further stepping stone towards the Olympic Games in London,” said British Cycling’s Performance Director Dave Brailsford, “and whilst the team is building momentum there’s still plenty left in the tank. There’s a great mood in the camp and the riders are very much enjoying the process of competing.”
In previous years the Great Britain team has dominated World Championships on the track; with the team concentrating on peaking for the London Olympics however, other rival counties have moved into the ascendancy.
“For us it’s a real positive to be going into the World Championships as the hunters rather than the hunted,” explained Brailsford. “The pressure is really on the Australians and the French to deliver, and it’s a nice feeling for us to be going out there as the challengers.”
