German a tad disappointed with race between the two seas

fabian wegmannFabian Wegmann headed into Tirreno-Adriatico with a good result at the Montepaschi Strade Bianche, but left the week-long stage race not one hundred percent content. He is now tackling Milano-Sanremo and is convinced his Leopards Trek tem can do well there.

As a team they already succeeded in Tirreno. “We from the Leopard Trek team achieved what we had set out to do – a stage victory,” Wegmann wrote on his personal website fabianwegmann.de. “Fabian Cancellara gave us the win on the final day.”

He was not quite content with his own showing. “After my tenth place Montepaschi Strade Bianche four days earlier I went to Tirreno – Adriatico with a positive attitude.” He detailed how already the first stage did not go to his liking. “On the first stage I lost my teammates in the team time trial through unfortunate circumstances.”

Mid-race things went worse. “In the fourth stage I had anything but a good day.” This changed the day after, when Wegmann made the break of the day. “But the escape of over 200 kilometers together with three other riders was unfortunately not successful.”

He gave it all that day, so basically the race was over for him then. “There was not much to be expected from me in the final two days.”

Now the German is looking forward to Saturday’s Milano-Sanremo. “With Fabian Cancellara we have the 2008 winner in our team. I don’t think we have to hide.”
