Thor Hushovd played the role of domestique in Tirreno-Adriatico, which was the ideal preparation for him ahead of Milano-Sanremo.The Norwegian is happy with his form.
Hushovd was launching sprints for Tyler Farrar rather than going for glory himself.
His main goal was to get in shape for Saturday’s Milano-Sanremo, which worked out perfectly. “I knew that my form was good,” he told Sporza. “I am really happy with the way Tirreno went.”
In the early season it is always curious how well the form is coming along. “It went surprisingly well,” he said. The question for him will be how he can cope with the hills at the end of a long race. “It was a little more difficult on the tough final days,” he admitted. “But I certainly cannot complain.”
Garmin-Cervelo has three contenders for the first Classic of the season. Besides Hushovd, there are Farrar and Heinrich Haussler. The race will decide the tactics. “We all have a free role,” he said. The final will decide who can support who in order to get the best result for the team. Hushovd knows one thing. “The Poggio will make it all clear. I need to be very aggressive on the hills.”
