Examination to be held in September, regulation comes into force on January 1st 2012
The UCI is to press ahead with its plans to regulate the agents involved in cycling, stating that it will hold an exam on September 3rd of this year in order to determine who will get the seal of approval.
Its management committee approved a new regulation relating to the area at its annual meeting last October 1st in Melbourne. It said that its aim is to professionalise, standardise and better monitor this activity.
“From 1st January 2012, anyone wishing to represent a rider from a team in the first or second division (UCI ProTeam or UCI Professional Continental Team) - with the exception of riders’ lawyers and relatives – will have to have obtained a riders’ agent’s Licence from their National Federation,” it said. “However, this request will only be accepted for individuals who are already certified by the UCI.”
The exams will last three hours and cover a number of areas, including regulations pertaining to licences, teams, permitted and forbidden races, betting, sponsoring and other issues.
Those sitting the exam will be able to do it in English or French.
Successful applicants will then register with their national federation, receiving the licence.
