USA Cycling has rejigged results from 2007, 2008 and 2009 to remove Peter Cannell from his victories in the Masters’ national championship.
The 37 year old from Mebane, North Carolina was handed a two year suspension by the US Anti Doping Agency (USADA) on April 8th, having been found positive for the anabolic agent drostanolone in a sample taken by USADA on April 16, 2010. The suspension was backdated to May 17th of last year, the day he accepted a provisional suspension.
However there were implications for earlier results, as an investigation carried out by USADA led to Cannell’s acknowledgement that he had used anabolic agents in the past. This led to all results and prizes being stripped from February 6th 2007 onwards.
Cannell is one of several Masters riders to have been handed suspensions by USADA in recent months. It is unknown if he is one of those who purchased doping agents from Joe Papp, who has been assisting USADA with its investigations. Papp has urged others who used the substances to come forward of their own volition.
