Oscar FreireOscar Freire will make his comeback this weekend at the San Sebastián Classic after under-going maxillary sinus surgery in June. The Spaniard had to quit the Tour de Suisse as the sinus problem he suffered last year flared up again.

According to his Rabobank team, the three-times world champion has recovered successfully from the surgery and is ready to use the race to get in shape for the Vuelta a España that starts on the 20th August.

"Oscar's fine," said technical director Erik Breukink. "In terms of condition he is in good order, but he’s missing some racing miles, of course. Oscar’s role is still debatable. San Sebastián has a tough final, but in view of the Vuelta, we thought it good to let him start."

The Dutch squad are sending a competitive line up that includes the last two winners in Luis Leon Sanchez (2010) and Carlos Barredo (2009). Both riders have recently completed the Tour de France with Sanchez winning a stage.

"The past years have shown that Tour riders have the advantage. We have with us three, but two who know how to win on this course. This experience should not be underestimated," added Breukink.

The other Tour de France participant will be Laurens ten Dam who crashed heavily in the race but has recovered well enough to support the team on Saturday. Matti Breschel will also make an appearance. The Dane has had a trying first year on the Rabobank squad with a knee injury keeping him out of competition for the early part of the season. Last week he took part in the Brixia Tour and had to withdraw due to illness but has recovered in time for what is to be his first major Classic of the year.

One notable absentee from the list will be Robert Gesink. The finish would likely to suit the climber but the team has decided he needs to rest after a disappointing Tour de France. Last year Gesink finished seventh in San Sebastián.

Full Rabobank line up: Luis Leon Sanchez, Carlos Barredo, Matti Breschel, Oscar Freire, Bram Tankink, Laurens ten Dam, Pieter Weening and Maarten Wynants.
