Almost four months after Wouter Weylandt tragically passed away in the Giro d’Italia, his daughter has been born. The Leopard Trek rider’s girlfriend Sophie De Graeve's gave birth yesterday to a child called Alizée, 51 centimetres in length and 3.6 kilograms.
“Good news travels fast. Yesterday An-Sophie gave birth to a beautiful little girl, named Alizée,” said his sister Elke on Twitter.
Weylandt competed for seven years as part of the Quick Step team, then moved to Leopard Trek last winter. The charismatic Belgian was a past stage winner in the Vuelta a España and Giro d’Italia, as well as in the Tour of Belgium, the Eneco Tour and the Ster Elektrotoer. He was also third in the 2008 Gent Wevelgem.
Sadly, he crashed on the descent of the Passo del Bocco on stage three of this year’s Giro and passed away. The birth of his daughter means that more than his memory lives on.
