The Polish National team for the upcoming UCI Road World Championships has been announced with Team RadioShack’s Michal Kwiatkowski (pictured) expected to lead the team. Though only 21 years old, the Pole has showed great ability in his debut year as a professional cyclist, and most recently finished third in Tour of Poitou-Charentes while riding in support of team-mate and race winner Jesse Sergent.
Joining Kwiatkowski in the six man team will be Michal Gola (Vacansoleil-DCM) who collided with Tyler Farrar (Garmin Cervelo) on stage seven at the Vuelta a España this year and had to leave the race with seventeen stitches to his face. Both Kwiatkowski and Gola have announced they’ll ride for Belgian squad Omega Pharma – Quick Step during the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
The Polish team will also consist of Jaroslaw Marycz who is currently taking part in his first Grand Tour at the Vuelta while Liquigas-Cannondale will have two entrants on the team with the slightly more experienced Maciej Bodnar and Maciej Paterski. Both riders took part in the Tour de France for the first time this year.
Bodnar will also line up in the individual time trial and is no slouch in the race against the clock, having finished ninth in the event in Geelong last year. He was also part of the Liquigas-Cannondale team who won the team time trial at the 201 Giro d’Italia.
